After he was acquitted by the Amsterdam court, the court also sentenced H.’s friend and peer Jeffrey V. (24) to 6 years in prison in July last year for a similar role.

The court considers it proven that Mahmood H. prepared the liquidation together with Jeffrey V. from February 6 to March 4, 2021, after another group was arrested on January 28 after a wild chase when it had waited for Anis B. at the gym in Amsterdam. North. Anis B. worked on his reintegration there after a prison sentence.

‘Other workers needed’

An automatic weapon and a pistol were found with the suspects arrested at the time and also convicted. In their getaway car they had a jerry can with fuel to set the car on fire. Their client complained that ‘his little ones (were) just grabbed, on the way to that crazy guy’. So he ‘needed other workers’. According to the court, these included Mahmood H. and Jeffrey V.

Mahmood H. rented a bus with which he picked up Jeffrey V. on March 4, 2021, after which they drove to Meeuwenlaan in Amsterdam-Noord, to the house where Anis B. often visited family. There, Jeffrey V. stuck a beacon under the car in which Anis B. often drove – so that he could be followed from a distance with a telephone that the police eventually found in that bus.

That phone contained DNA from Mahmood H. A brother of Anis B. caught Jeffrey V. when he placed the tracking transmitter under the car. The alerted police were able to stop the bus after a chase, with Mahmood H. behind the wheel and Jeffrey V. as co-driver.

Snorder

Mahmood H. says he did not know that V. stuck that transmitter under the car, let alone that he knew what the purpose was. He says he only drove Jeffrey V. as a snorder (illegal taxi driver). The court does not believe him.

The judges see plenty of evidence in decrypted text messages that a large, varying composition had been planning to liquidate ‘that boy’ (Anis B.) since the autumn of 2020. He had to be ‘riddled with bullets’ with a Kalashnikov and a pistol. ‘Spotters’ had to observe Anis B. and map his movements, ‘hitters’ had to shoot him dead.

Several suspects exchanged information about their target, and his photo was sent. The messages also discussed in detail how the liquidation should ultimately be carried out and how traces and evidence should be erased.

First cousin

The telephone found in the rental van also contained videos of parking garages and vehicle license plates, which, according to the court, are ‘in relation to the parking garage in Maassluisstraat’ under the complex where Anis B.’s girlfriend Ayla Mintjes had an apartment.

According to the judges, the telephone was ‘inextricably linked to the plan to prepare the murder of Anis B.’. Mahmood H. is also a first cousin of the possible client for the murder of Anis B.

On May 16, 2021, Mintjes’ Mercedes became the target of war scenes there. The car was fired upon with automatic weapons. Mintjes, who was driving the car, was fatally hit by one of the many bullets.
