Weather

THOLEN – After a changeable week with a lot of rain, the run-up to Ascension Day is a lot less wet. Ascension Day itself also seems to be completely dry. The sun shines regularly and the temperature is between 15 and 20 degrees. After Ascension Day, the temperature will rise a little further and the weather will be perfect spring weather.

We are only in the second week of May and very locally, twice the normal monthly amount of rain has already fallen in Limburg and Gelderland. This is mainly due to the heavy thunderstorms that passed over the country last Thursday. In fact, it has not been dry for a whole week in our country since October and that is starting to become problematic for some places.

For example, many farmers are weeks behind schedule and some cellars are still flooded due to extremely high groundwater. Today there will be some rain again in the south of the country, but in the north and center it will remain almost dry. The temperature eventually rises to 16 to 20 degrees.

Largely dry start

The good news is that Monday appears to be the last day with rain for a while. The run-up to Ascension Day is a lot drier, with plenty of room for sunshine, especially on Tuesday. There will be more cloud on Wednesday and a splash of rain may fall, especially inland, but it won’t amount to much. Tuesday it will be 15 to 19 degrees, but on Wednesday it will not be much warmer than about 15 degrees in many places under the clouds.

Often dry on Ascension Day

Ascension Day will be mainly dry with a mix of clouds and sun. The temperature rises to 15 degrees on the coast to locally 20 degrees in the southeast of the country. These are quite common values for the time of year. During the traditional dew kicking in the early morning, the temperature is somewhere between 7 and 11 degrees.

The days after Ascension Day are also pleasant spring weather. There is no precipitation planned, which means we will actually have a largely dry week with plenty of room for the sun. That was a while ago and for many people this comes at just the right time! The temperature also starts to rise after Ascension Day. Next weekend it could be 20 degrees or more in almost the entire country. Inland it can even reach 23 degrees.

High sun power

Another point of attention is the strength of the sun this week. From Ascension Day we will reach sun power 5 throughout the country and in the following days we can reach sun power 6 in the southern half of the country for the first time this year. Unprotected skin can burn within 15 minutes. So it is definitely recommended to apply it. The sun is brightest in the middle of the day, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. You can also burn in the hour before and after, but less quickly.
