The two Ukrainians stabbed to death in Germany last weekend were soldiers recovering from injuries sustained in the war with Russia. This was reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On Saturday, the two Ukrainian soldiers, aged 23 and 26, were stabbed on the grounds of a shopping center in Murnau am Staffelsee, in the German state of Bavaria.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba thanks German authorities for the arrest of the suspect. That is a 57-year-old man with Russian nationality. He was arrested by the police after a short manhunt.

Kuleba has instructed his diplomats to continue to monitor the case closely. They are in constant contact with the German authorities.

The German public prosecutor’s office is currently investigating the stabbing. The arrested Russian is suspected of double murder. Nothing is yet known about the motive. For example, it is not clear whether the stabbing can be linked to the war in Ukraine.

No evidence of this has yet been found, the police reported on Monday. It appears that the three men already knew each other before the stabbing.
