Flash delivery company Getir is leaving the Netherlands and other countries where the company is active. The delivery service will only focus on the Turkish market, where the company originally comes from.

With the departure of Getir, the subsidiary brand Gorillas will also disappear from Europe. In addition to the Netherlands, the company also departs from Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Getir grew very fast during the corona pandemic, but the market has now cooled down sharply due to the uncertain economy and inflation. Consumers spend less money on ordering groceries.

The fierce competition in the grocery delivery market also contributed to the departure.

In August, Getir announced it was cutting 2,500 jobs, which amounted to about 10 percent of its total workforce. The company also left several Dutch cities because the number of orders was very limited.

The flash delivery company was still active in Amsterdam, Amstelveen, The Hague, Haarlem, Rotterdam and Utrecht. With the departure of Getir and Gorillas, only Flink remains active in the Netherlands.

Getir says that employees will be informed about the departure on Monday. “Getir would like to thank all its employees for their efforts and contribution to the growth of the company,” the company said in a statement.
