I think comparing groceries is a bit distorted, especially when you look at how steam works and the combination of the steam deck.
I think you can say that you get an Xbox instead of a PlayStation, because the PlayStation is not a betrayal.
Would you wait until there is a PlayStation or would you opt for the console to which you have no commitment.
(The choice can of course also be the other way around, but I think you get my point)
The choice of a carton of milk from AH or Lidl ultimately does not matter much, but after all, this will only last you a day or two.
Personal assumption
And even if you look at the Epic platform itself, how long will it last. My personal feeling is that maybe at some point it might just cease to exist.
Free games and multi-million dollar deals to get and keep customers on the platform, while it is still not profitable, tells me that the platform may struggle to survive in the long term.
This is one of the many reasons why I prefer to buy my games on Steam.
