The Russian security service FSB says it has killed a Russian who wanted to carry out an attack on behalf of the Ukrainian army. Russian state news agencies report this. According to the security service, this is a “military intelligence agent”. Ukraine has not yet responded to the reports.

According to the FSB, he is a Russian citizen who was recruited by Ukraine’s military intelligence service. He is said to have entered the country via Lithuania in March and is suspected, among other things, of preparing an attack on a fuel terminal in the northwest of Saint Petersburg.

Gunfight during arrest

The FSB tracked down the man after discovering a weapons cache in Gatchina, south of Saint Petersburg. A firefight ensued.

“During the arrest he resisted with weapons. He was neutralized,” read the FSB statement to state news agency Tass. He is also said to have had explosives with him.

“It has been established that the saboteur, on the orders of the intelligence service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, wanted to carry out an attack on Russian territory,” FSB reports to Tass. The man also targeted a volunteer center in St. Petersburg, according to state news agency RIA Novosti.
