The NPO has a plan for the ‘successor’ of the hit series The Jewish Council shot, said screenwriter Roos Ouwehand in the NPO Radio 1 program With an eye to tomorrow. She has been working on the screenplay for the follow-up series for a year and a half now.

It’s about the series The returnset in the first year after World War II.

“We heard last week that the NPO is not interested in the series,” Ouwehand said. “That is a very bitter pill and the last word has not yet been said about it. The NPO thought the series was too complicated because there were too many main characters. The viewer would not understand that.” The return would follow ten characters. The hit series Eyeballswhich Ouwehand also writes, more than twenty follow.

The NPO does not want to say why the series will not be made. “We do not make any statements about internal processes,” says a spokesperson. The NPO does say that “we greatly appreciate these makers”.

The return would be made by pretty much the same team as The Jewish Council. Earlier this year, that series attracted one and a half million viewers every week. Mayor Femke Halsema referred to one of the main characters, Virrie Cohen, in her speech on Dam Square. The resistance fighter saved hundreds of babies from the nursery opposite the Hollandse Schouwburg, where Jewish people were brought together for transport.

“While making The Jewish Council I came across many stories that I found more and more interesting,” Ouwehand said in the radio program. “The Netherlands was in ruins, it was great chaos. I wanted to make a mosaic story about all the characters returning to the Netherlands. People who were employed abroad, for example.” Paula van der Oest would be the successor, just like The Jewish Councilto direct.

Ouwehand and Van der Oest have The return developed with NTR. NTR was not available for comment on Sunday.
