Erik ten Hag has come into further trouble at Manchester United. The Dutch manager lost his team to mid-table Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Monday: 4-0.

The shocking defeat for Manchester United arrived early at Selhurst Park. After twelve minutes it was already a hit. The visitors’ defenders did not prevent Michael Olise from scoring: 1-0.

Then things went from bad to worse for Manchester United. It was 2-0 before half time thanks to a beautiful strike from Jean-Philippe Mateta and shortly after the break the margin was even three thanks to a goal from Tyrick Mitchell.

With his second of the evening, Olise completed the defeat for United halfway through the second half. In injury time, the post even prevented the 5-0 and a bigger punishment for the English record champion, who had to miss ten players, including Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes.

Manchester United only shot twice on target in the entire match, with former Ajax player Jaïro Riedewald coming on in the 67th minute. Crystal Palace scored ten attempts between the posts.

Olise deals yet another blow to United from Ten Hag

Ten Hag was already under fire

After a weak series with only one win in the last five competition games, Ten Hag’s position was already a topic of discussion in Manchester before the kick-off in London. The Dutchman has been very aggressive at press conferences in recent weeks and has even boycotted critical journalists.

Ten Hag recently said against Viaplay that he expects to be ‘normal’ coach of Manchester United next season, partly because he reached the final of the FA Cup. The big question is whether this will also be the case after the defeat at Crystal Palace. Recently appointed investor Jim Ratcliffe determines the fate of Ten Hag.

Due to the incident in London, Manchester United is currently in eighth place in the Premier League. Never before have ‘The Red Devils’ finished eighth or lower since the founding of the top competition in 1992.

Even European football is now at risk for Manchester United. The best six clubs in England will enter Europe next season. United is now two points behind number six Newcastle United. There are three matches left to play in the Premier League.
