Jens Toornstra will also play for FC Utrecht next year. The option in the 35-year-old midfielder’s contract has been lifted. This means Toornstra is in his sixteenth Eredivisie season.

Toornstra came over on a free transfer from Feyenoord in the summer of 2022 and signed a three-year contract with an option for an extra season. That option has now been taken.

“Jens is still valuable to the team every week, on and off the field,” says technical director Jordy Zuidam on the club website. “He is also an example for the younger players. We are happy that we will also have him available next season.”

Toornstra is in his second period at FC Utrecht. The midfielder switched from ADO Den Haag to FC Utrecht in 2013. A year later he went to Feyenoord, with whom he became national champion in 2017 and won the KNVB Cup twice.

“Jens is one of the most experienced professionals on the Dutch fields. He knows the ins and outs of the Eredivisie better than anyone and is now just as fit as during his first period at FC Utrecht,” says Zuidam.

Toornstra’s tally stands at 122 matches for the Domstedelingen, in which he scored 29 times and delivered 22 assists. Toornstra has played a total of fifteen seasons in the Eredivisie since 2009. He played 443 matches.
