Princess Amalia no longer refunds the constitutional expense allowance she receives. Outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte reports this in a letter. Amalia will continue to relinquish her income until the end of her studies.

Amalia’s decision takes effect on January 1, 2025. The 2024 expense reimbursement amounted to 1.5 million euros. This amount has continued to increase in recent years. The Crown Princess now keeps the money “due to foreseeable costs associated with an independent and independent performance of her position”.

The income component, which amounted to 322,000 euros this year, will continue to be refunded to the princess. She previously announced that she will continue to do this until she completes her studies.

“I find that uncomfortable as long as I have little to offer in return and other students are having a much more difficult time, especially during this corona time. I will therefore return the income until the end of my studies,” Princess Amalia wrote in June 2021.

“In addition, as long as I do not have to incur high costs in my position as Princess of Orange, I will also refund the expense allowance,” she wrote at the time. According to the princess, the costs are now high.
