The office of prominent German MEP Maximilian Krah in Brussels has been searched at the request of German authorities. The investigation is related to the arrest of his employee Jian G.

G., who has both German and Chinese nationality, is suspected of espionage. Since 2019, he has worked for Krah, the leader of the right-wing radical Alternative for Germany (AfD) in next month’s European elections.

In mid-April, G. was arrested in Germany on suspicion of spying for China. He is said to have spied on Chinese dissidents and passed on information from the European Parliament to Chinese intelligence services. Krah then said he would be fired immediately if the suspicions turned out to be true.

G.’s home in Brussels had already been searched. Now, with the cooperation of the European Parliament, a search has also been carried out in the office of G. and Krah, reports the prosecutor of the highest German court.

The European Parliament suspended G. after the judicial investigation became known. He no longer has access to parliament’s buildings and networks. Krah has not been identified as a suspect, but is considered a witness.
