Borussia Dortmund also wins at PSG and is a surprising Champions League finalist | Football

--

Borussia Dortmund surprisingly qualified for the Champions League final on Tuesday. The number five in the Bundesliga won 0-1 at Paris Saint-Germain, which has to wait even longer for its first final victory.

Borussia Dortmund won the first match of the diptych 1-0 last week and was also too strong for Paris Saint-Germain in Paris. 35-year-old Mats Hummels nodded in the only goal from a corner for the team of Dutchmen Ian Maatsen and Donyell Malen.

The victory means that Dortmund can go to Wembley on June 1, where they lost the Champions League final to Bayern Munich in 2013. ‘Die Borussen’ may get a chance for revenge. A match against Bayern or Real Madrid awaits in the final.

The place in the Champions League final is striking. Dortmund is only fifth in the Bundesliga. Moreover, coach Edin Terzic’s team survived the eighth finals and quarter-finals against PSV and Atlético Madrid by hanging and suffocating.

For Paris Saint-Germain it is yet another blow in the Champions League. Since the club came into Qatari hands in 2011, PSG has become French champions ten times. However, the popular cup with the big ears is still missing from the Parisians’ trophy cabinet after this season.

Dortmund with half a leg in Champions League final after Hummels goal

Champions League victory remains an obsession for PSG

PSG will be in disbelief after yet another failed Champions League campaign, although the team has fewer stars this year than in previous years. Previously, it had not worked with Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar in one team.

With only Mbappé, who is probably in his last year in Paris, PSG could not convince for a long time. Dortmund’s opening goal in the fiftieth minute was therefore not undeserved. The goalscorer was very surprising.

Hummels scored his first Champions League goal since October 2, 2018, when he scored on behalf of Bayern against Ajax on behalf of Bayern. His last Champions League goal in the Borussia Dortmund shirt came in 2013.

After Hummels’ opening goal, PSG continued to push, but Borussia Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel was lucky on several occasions. Nuno Mendes shot on the post and Mbappé and Vitinha hit the crossbar. Winning the Champions League will remain an obsession for PSG for the time being.
