A 16-year-old boy who was stabbed in Helmond last night died in hospital this morning from his injuries.
The police have arrested a 20-year-old man from Helmond as a suspect. Omroep Brabant reports that it concerns an acquaintance of the victim.
The police received a report of the stabbing around midnight. Officers found the 16-year-old boy seriously injured on Piet Blomplein in the city center.
Given the seriousness of the situation, the boy had to be operated on the spot by a trauma team. A police officer drove to a nearby hospital to get additional bags of blood. Shortly afterwards the victim was taken to hospital.
Argument preceded
The 20-year-old suspect was standing close to the victim when he was arrested. “The Helmond is locked up at the station and is being interrogated today,” the police said. “The victim and the suspect are known to each other and we strongly believe that an argument preceded the stabbing incident.”
To gain more clarity about what exactly happened, the police are also conducting a neighborhood investigation today.
