Real Madrid reached the final of the Champions League in spectacular fashion on Wednesday. ‘De Koninklijke’ was still behind in the 87th minute against Bayern Munich, but still won 2-1.
After last week’s 2-2 in Munich, that was exactly enough for Real to reach the final. A meeting with Borussia Dortmund awaits, which surprisingly eliminated Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday. The final will be played at Wembley on June 1.
Substitute Joselu was the man of the match with two goals. The Spaniard had only been on the field for seven minutes when he took advantage of a small mistake by the excellent goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the 88th minute.
The German goalkeeper released the ball, after which the attacker tapped in. In the first minute of injury time, Joselu brought Estadio Santiago Bernabéu into ecstasy by scoring the score 2-1.
Bayern pressed on in the final phase and even seemed to equalize through Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutch defender, recovered from an injury, soon had to stop his celebration because the referee had blown his whistle for offside earlier in the attack. That left the score 2-1.

It was mainly thanks to Neuer that both teams went to halftime with an equal score. The goalkeeper tapped Vinícius Júnior’s effort against the post and breathed a sigh of relief when Rodrygo did not use the rebound. Just before half-time, Neuer again deflected Vinícius’ effort out of his goal.
Substitute Alphonso Davies seemed to be crowned the match winner after the break by beautifully making it 0-1 in the 68th minute. The Canadian moved in from the left flank and shot a phenomenal shot in the intersection.
Shortly afterwards, Real, who had many more chances than Bayern throughout the match, seemed to be on level terms. De Ligt received the ball hard and passed his own goalkeeper. But the celebration at Real Madrid was short-lived. After VAR intervention, the goal was disallowed because Nacho had given a big push to Joshua Kimmich.
Then it was up to Joselu, who helped Real to a deserved victory. Thanks to his two goals, Real remains in the race to win the most important European prize for the fifteenth time.
