Adrian Newey has been working as the chief designer at the Red Bull Formula 1 team for almost two decades. However, the rumblings at the energy drink manufacturer could drive him to another racing stable. Ferrari is now reportedly trying to get him.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner was accused of inappropriate conduct, but the complaint was rejected by Red Bull GmbH after an independent investigation. Subsequently, photos of alleged WhatsApp conversations between Horner and the female colleague were leaked. An argument broke out between Jos Verstappen and Horner, rumors that Max Verstappen would leave for Mercedes surfaced and Helmut Marko thought he would be suspended. There is said to be a huge power struggle going on within Red Bull with the Austrian side wanting to get rid of Horner, but the Thai side wanting to keep him. In fact, the only Red Bull CEO who has remained silent on this matter so far is Chief Technical Officer Newey. Past experience shows that Newey prefers to avoid a toxic working environment. That was also the reason he once left McLaren.

Discussions in advanced phase

Ferrari has already put a lot of work into trying to become a championship-winning team again. Frédéric Vasseur took over the role as team boss from Mattia Binotto for 2023. The Frenchman subsequently managed to poach Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes. Ferrari also has its sights set on Red Bull. According to previous reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport the Italian racing team wants to strengthen its aerodynamic department with, among others, David Morgan, the On-track Aerodynamic Development ManagerBen Waterhouse, Head of Performance, and Alessandro Germani, Head of Aerodynamic Development. It would not stop there, because Ferrari has reportedly also entered into discussions with Red Bull about Newey. Ferrari president John Elkann is said to be a master at negotiations and therefore met with Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff in the motor home of the Austrian team during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Talks between Newey and Ferrari are now said to be at an advanced stage. According to Formula Uno Analisi Tecnica the two parties will meet again in the weeks between the Japanese and Chinese Grands Prix to further discuss a possible switch for the chief designer.
