If PSV and Feyenoord qualify again for the main tournament of the Champions League – and it looks very likely at the moment – then both clubs can look forward to a large sum of money. The people of Eindhoven may receive 37 million euros ‘without even kicking a ball’, while the reigning champion of the Netherlands will most likely receive 39 million euros.

PSV watcher Rik Elfrink from the Eindhovens Dagblad already delved into the distribution of the Champions League funds for the new season, partly following an investigation by the X account Scotland’s Coefficient, which is close to the amounts calculated for PSV and Feyenoord. Elfrink writes this based on ‘usually excellent sources’. UEFA still has to confirm all amounts, for the record, that’s what it sounds like. Nevertheless, both PSV and Feyenoord seem to be able to rub their hands.

Unlike in recent years, the numbers one and two in the Eredivisie qualify directly for the main tournament of the Champions League. PSV is still undefeated after 26 competition matches and only has two victories to secure direct qualification for the billion-dollar ball. Feyenoord is also well on its way. It seems that it can forget about the national title with a deficit of ten points and only eight competition matches to go, but with eight points more than FC Twente it has a firm grip on second place.

PSV and Feyenoord can expect large amounts of money if they qualify directly for the Champions League. Participants in the 2024-2025 Champions League will all receive a fixed and variable starting premium next yearElfrink knows. The fixed premium will most likely increase from 15.6 million to around 18.6 million euros. When determining the variable premium, three factors are taken into account. The club ranking of the participating teams over the last five years, over the last ten years and the amounts paid in the country of a Champions League club to be allowed to broadcast the Champions League tournamentthat’s what it sounds like.

Feyenoord is ranked higher than PSV

Not much is known about the latter, but based on the position over the last five years – Feyenoord is eighteenth and PSV twentieth – the Dutch top clubs can expect amounts of around twenty million and more than eighteen million euros respectively. Without even kicking a ball, PSV (37 million) and Feyenoord (39 million) are expected to collect enormous sums anyway, not including the four receipts for the home games. New in the coming season is that the Champions League will have eight matches in the group stage, instead of the current six matches.writes Elfrink.

Of course, there is also (a lot of) money to be made in the tournament itself. After the group stage, a ranking of 36 clubs will be drawn up and the bottom line is that the ‘front runner’ will receive almost ten million euros and the ‘bottom runner’ almost three hundred euros, or so it is expected. Moreover, a won match yields just over two million euros and a draw seven hundred thousand, according to the figures Scotland’s Coefficient. It doesn’t stop there, because clubs that qualify for the intermediate round of the Champions League can earn twelve or thirteen million euros.
