Ricky van Wolfswinkel responds to FC Twente’s decision to no longer allow Joshua Brenet to play for the club, after it became known that the defender has been sentenced to one month in prison.

“We know Joshua as a teammate and he is a very nice boy for us,” are the words of Van Wolfswinkel. “It is a shame how this ended. It is not for me to elaborate on this very much, but we know him in a different way than the press makes it public,” said the attacker.

The Tukkers won 1-0 against Heracles Almelo on Sunday afternoon thanks to a goal by Myron Boadu. After the goal, several Twente players made a striking statement of support for Brenet. The players cheered in the same way as Brenet always did after a goal.

“I can be very clear about that. We see him as a fellow player and we are one family. That is also the strength of Twente. Of course people make choices that not everyone agrees with, but then you have to be strong as a family. As a group of players, we would of course have liked to keep him with us, but you have a management for these choices. Then it is not always up to us.”
