Adidas will stop the sale of the German European Championship shirt with jersey number 44 as soon as possible. Due to the chosen font, the uniform shows similarities with the SS logo.

The sponsor of the German football association DFB intervened after outraged reactions on social media. “Adidas employs people from about a hundred countries,” a spokesperson for the sports brand said on Monday Image.

“Our company is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion. As a company, we actively oppose xenophobia, anti-Semitism, violence and hatred in all forms.”

“Attempts to promote division or exclusion are not part of our values as a brand. We strongly reject any suggestion that this was our intention.”

The German national team is leaving adidas after more than seventy years

A week and a half ago, the DFB announced that it would be saying goodbye to clothing sponsor adidas after more than seventy years and switching to Nike. The American manufacturer will supply the uniforms for the German national team from 2027.

‘Die Mannschaft’ has been wearing adidas clothing for many years. The world titles in 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014 were all won with the German manufacturer as a sponsor.

Germany will host the European Championships next summer, which starts on June 14. The host country is in a group with Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland. The Scots are the first opponent of national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team on June 14.
