‘We’re all devastated’

It could happen tomorrow evening: if PSV achieves a result against SC Heerenveen and Feyenoord drops points, the Eindhoven team will be champions. That would be the 25th national title for the club, and the first since 2018.

However, PSV coach Peter Bosz has not yet suffered from championship fever. At the press conference prior to the game, he said he was looking forward to the away game against Heerenveen in peace.

“I don’t have championship jitters yet, maybe because we don’t have complete control over it ourselves. I just see it as ‘the next match’ against Heerenveen that we want to win.” To put it bluntly: “If we become champions tomorrow: fine. If that is a few days later: also fine.”

Injury Dest

Naturally, the injury of full-back Sergiño Dest was also discussed. He suffered a serious knee injury this week, which will keep him out for a long time.

“Unfortunately it is a serious injury, we are all devastated,” says Bosz. “He and the doctor told the players and staff. After that there was dead silence, that says it all. It’s terrible.”

Bosz does not reveal exactly what condition Dest is in. “Sergiño would like it if he could explain himself what exactly happened and what the next step is. That will happen one of these days.”

When visiting Heerenveen, Bosz also has access to several players who are returning from injuries, such as Ismael Saibari and Ricardo Pepi. The pair will travel to Friesland.

Bosz still keeps in mind who plays at left back, in place of Dest. “Patrick van Aanholt previously played there, when Mauro Júnior was injured. Now Mauro is fit again, so they could both play there.”
