Ajax has completed its investigation into possible conflicts of interest by Sven Mislintat. This is what Michael van Praag, chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Amsterdammers, said in conversation with NOS. The investigation into Mislintat took a lot of time. According to Van Praag, the press release is now ready, but sending it has been postponed due to the unrest caused by the suspension of Alex Kroes.

Ajax announced on Tuesday morning that Kroes has been suspended with immediate effect and will most likely not return to his position. Kroes officially took up his position as general manager less than a month ago, but may have been guilty of insider trading. The general manager wants to challenge the club’s decision with the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets, but Van Praag has spoken in front of the camera. ESPN said that makes no sense. It is clear to Van Praag: Kroes will not return.

Due to the unrest surrounding Kroes, you would almost forget that there is also an investigation into Mislintat. But that has now been completed, Van Praag said. “That is ready, but is now overshadowed by what is happening here,” the driver notes. The NOS released an investigation in September showing that Mislintat had brought Croatian defender Borna Sosa to Ajax through a business relationship. Ajax then engaged accounting and consultancy firm KPMG to assess whether there was a conflict of interest in the incoming transfers realized by Mislintat. The German brought new players to Amsterdam for more than a hundred million euros, but was released on September 24 after the dramatic Classic for Ajax.

Ajax announced at the end of February that the investigation was in the final phase, but it was unclear when the results would be shared. So we won’t have to wait very long for that. “We will have to call an extraordinary shareholders’ meeting. We have to see whether it makes sense to deal with both issues, Kroes and Mislintat, at once, since you are already coming together,” says Van Praag. “You may have to have a whole day of meetings. That’s also fun sometimes.”

Return to Borussia Dortmund

After Mislintat’s dismissal at Ajax, things remained quiet around the German for a long time, but he has been the center of attention again in recent weeks. Not because of Ajax’s investigation, but his possible return to Borussia Dortmund. According to German media, Mislintat is even about to make his return to the Signal Iduna Park, although it is still unclear whether that will happen as sporting or technical director.
