It is still not clear who will broadcast Formula 1 in the Netherlands in 2025. Previously it seemed that Ziggo Sport would come out on top, but now Viaplay seems to be in pole position again. According to Chris Woerts, there is a very good chance that Viaplay will retain the rights.

The originally Scandinavian streaming service has been broadcasting Formula 1 in the Netherlands since 2022. Viaplay received a lot of criticism in the first months and they also faced financial problems. Still, they wanted to continue broadcasting Formula 1, but in recent days it seemed that they had lost the battle for the broadcasting rights. Ziggo Sport seemed to be bringing Formula 1 back.

However, on Tuesday Viaplay announced a collaboration with Talpa. SBS9 will be renamed Viaplay TV and Formula 1 sessions will also be shown on this channel. Viaplay seems to be preparing for a new deal with the FOM. Sports marketer Chris Woerts says in the SBS6 program Today Inside that it is not yet clear who will broadcast the sport from 2025: “It is not yet known, that will be announced later. You would say that you are not entering into this collaboration if you does not win the rights, so with a high degree of probability you can assume that Viaplay will win the rights. That will soon be determined by the FOM, but the chance is very high.”
