Michael van Praag still does not want to know about Alex Kroes returning to the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The general manager took up his position on March 15, but was suspended less than three weeks later due to possible insider trading. Van Praag announced on the same day that the door to Kroes’ return is closed and if it is up to the honorary chairman, it will remain that way.

The chairman of the supervisory board (SB) of Ajax will repeat his position on Thursday evening during a scheduled members meeting. That writes The Telegraph Wednesday morning. A few weeks ago it was announced that an extra meeting would take place on April 25 – the birthday of Johan Cruijff – to restore some peace. Kroes’ suspension has caused quite a stir. The native of Utrecht joined on March 15 and in his first weeks immediately dealt with important matters such as the head coach position and the composition of the selection, but at the beginning of this month he was already outside the doors of the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

In the week before the publication of his intended appointment, Kroes purchased more than 17,000 Ajax shares. According to the supervisory board, the general manager was guilty of insider trading. The commissioners saw no other option than to suspend Kroes with immediate effect. Ajax’s press release stated that they also intend to permanently end the collaboration. The latter went down the wrong way with many Ajax members. The board of directors recently called on the supervisory board to ‘reconsider’ the decision about Kroes, so that he can return to the Johan Cruijff ArenA in any position and under any conditions.

But Van Praag still doesn’t want to know about that. Van Praag will attend a scheduled members meeting of Ajax on Thursday evening to explain why the supervisory board wants to dismiss Kroes, that’s what it sounds like. The supervisory board would like to ‘ratify’ Kroes’ dismissal on May 21 during the extraordinary meeting for shareholders. The question is whether that will work, now that more and more Ajax players are supporting Kroes. According to Van Praag, many members have an ‘information deficit’. He wants to catch up with them quickly. That is why the members meet on Thursday evening, on Cruijff’s birthday.
