Liverpool has reported to Feyenoord for Arne Slot, among others A.D and VI Wednesday. The top club in the Premier League sees the 45-year-old trainer as the ideal candidate to succeed Jürgen Klopp.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, talks between Slot and Liverpool are going well. He would even discuss the composition of the technical staff with the English top club.

Almost all major English media reported on Tuesday that Slot is a top candidate to become Liverpool’s coach after this season. He still has a contract in Rotterdam until the summer of 2026. According to general and technical director Dennis te Kloese, Feyenoord is “not eager” to cooperate in a departure.

Slot would be the only one who almost completely meets the profile for Klopp’s successor. The German will leave Liverpool next summer after nine years.

On Sunday, Slot received many questions about his future after winning the KNVB Cup with Feyenoord. He then reiterated that he is open to leaving if an interesting club comes forward.

Liverpool reportedly first saw Xabi Alonso as the ideal candidate for Klopp’s successor, but the success coach of Bayer Leverkusen chose to stay in Germany longer. In addition to Slot, Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton & Hove Albion is now also in the picture.

Slot rejected Tottenham Hotspur last year

Slot started as trainer of Feyenoord in the summer of 2021 and is making a big impression at De Kuip. Under his leadership, the Rotterdam team won the national title last year with attacking football. The second prize followed on Sunday with the cup win. Feyenoord is in second place in the Eredivisie this season.

Slot’s successful working method already led to interest from Tottenham Hotspur last year. The former coach of AZ and SC Cambuur entered into discussions with the English top club, but decided against a switch and extended his contract with Feyenoord.

Slot would be followed by more European top clubs. The rumors about this are not (yet) as strong as those about a switch to Liverpool.

Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League and are still in the race for the league title. Three Dutchmen are active at ‘The Reds’: Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch.
