According to Roger Lodewick, CEO of Viaplay Netherlands, fans should not expect that all races will be shown in full on Viaplay TV just after the Grand Prix. He also provides clarity about the channel surrounding the Dutch Grand Prix.
In conversation with Motorsport.com Lodewick discusses what fans can expect from Viaplay TV, the channel that performed well in Japan and China over the weekend. “We will look at what we are going to broadcast from month to month. We will be very selective in what we show and how much. But sometimes, to put it bluntly, you just want to give a gift, so that people can get to know the best of the best of what you have to offer. But in principle the crème de la crème only appears on the app and not on Viaplay TV.”

Not always full F1 race on Viaplay TV
According to Lodewick, fans should not think that what happened over the weekend in Japan, when the race was fully rebroadcast on the channel a few hours after the Grand Prix had ended, will become standard. “If a race is in a completely different time zone, you can think about broadcasting a race in its entirety. But it remains something we will only do very sporadically. Otherwise everyone will be like: I’ll wait a few hours.”

Dutch GP on Viaplay TV?
Can fans expect that something from the Dutch Grand Prix will be shown on Viaplay TV? Lodewick says no. “We will certainly not be broadcasting the race live on our linear channel this year. That lies with the NOS. A deal has been made for this and we respect that. Whether we will show anything extra around the Dutch Grand Prix on Viaplay TV remains to be seen.” In addition to Viaplay and F1 TV, the race will also be broadcast on NOS, just like in previous years. There may yet be another option for F1 fans, as Viaplay has revealed plans for one new special subscription.
