Feyenoord coach Arne Slot confirmed Liverpool’s interest on Thursday before the away match against Go Ahead Eagles. The coach would like to move to the English top club after this season.

“It seems clear to me that I would like to go to Liverpool,” Slot said ESPN. “I am now waiting until the clubs reach an agreement. I have every confidence in that. As the main character, I must also respect that. It will undoubtedly become clear in the coming days.”

Liverpool reported to Feyenoord for Slot on Wednesday. According to various Dutch media, the Rotterdammers are said to have rejected an initial offer from England. Feyenoord general manager Dennis te Kloese would demand a lump sum payment of more than 10 million euros.

Slot’s era at Feyenoord seems to be coming to an end after this season. The 45-year-old coach settled in De Kuip in 2021 and achieved great success with the club. In his first season, Feyenoord reached the final of the Conference League and last year the Rotterdam team was crowned national champion.

After that national title, Slot could go to Tottenham Hotspur, but the clubs could not reach an agreement. The former coach of AZ and SC Cambuur subsequently remained loyal to Feyenoord after a significant contract improvement. That certainly did Feyenoord no harm: on Sunday the club won the KNVB Cup. The Rotterdam team will most likely have to leave the national title to PSV.

Slot would succeed icon Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool. The German leaves after nine years, one Champions League final victory and one national title with ‘The Reds’. The Dutch Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch are under contract with the current number two of the Premier League.
