Lando Norris has been fined for crossing the track after the start crash in the F1 Sprint at the Miami International Autodrome. This involves considerable behavior of no less than €50,000.

Norris was one of the innocent victims of an opening-lap crash at the Miami International Autodrome. Lewis Hamilton got away well from twelfth position and dived into a gap at the first corner. Fernando Alonso had to make room for the Mercedes and therefore hit Aston Martin teammate Lance Stroll, who in turn could not avoid Norris. The latter was unable to get his McLaren going and retired after just a few hundred meters.

After the Sprint, Norris was summoned to the race management. He allegedly violated Article 26.7.b of the sporting regulations. It states that 15 minutes before a session or race until 5 minutes after a session or race, no one is allowed to stand or walk on the track with the exception of marshals or other personnel, drivers after receiving permission from a marshal or team members if a car remains stationary are on the grid at the start of the warm-up lap. In this case, Norris would not have been allowed to cross the track on foot.

The FIA has just confirmed that Norris has been reprimanded by the stewards, but also fined €50,000. €25,000 of this must be paid immediately. The Brit will have to pay the other half if he breaks this rule again. Norris responded to the race management that he realizes that the situation could have been “very dangerous” for him.

Hamilton also crossed the track after a crash in the opening round of Qatar last year and received the same penalty.
