Manchester City made no mistake in the title race against Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday. Kevin De Bruyne beautifully scored his first headed goal in the Premier League, after which Phil Foden and Julián Álvarez determined the final score: 0-4.

De Bruyne broke the spell after fifteen minutes. The midfielder responded sublimely to a cross from Kyle Walker by diving to head the ball into the goal beyond the reach of keeper Jason Steele.

The 32-year-old De Bruyne had never scored a goal with his head in 255 Premier League matches. The Belgian has previously only scored three headed goals in the Bundesliga, League Cup and Champions League.

City had no children with Brighton after that. Foden scored via a free kick and later benefited from an error in the build-up by the home team. In the second half, Álvarez provided the final score: 0-4.

Nathan Aké played the entire match for City. The same applied to Jan Paul van Hecke for the home team. Joël Veltman was substituted at half-time. Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen has been in the starting line-up for Brighton for the past five competition matches, but this time remained on the bench.

With the victory, City takes second place from Liverpool, which has also played one more match. Coach Pep Guardiola’s team is one point behind leader Arsenal, but ‘The Citizens’ still have a game in hand.
