There is a good chance that Hedwiges Maduro will leave Ajax this summer. John van ‘t Schip’s assistant is the main candidate to succeed Alex Pastoor at Almere City FC, it is reported Football International Friday morning.

Reports show that Maduro is now in talks with Almere. The former Ajax player could also continue in Amsterdam for longer. He was asked for the position of coach of Jong Ajax.

Maduro, who was at the helm twice this season as interim coach of Ajax, would like to go to Almere. According to VI a number of obstacles still need to be removed.

Maduro was taken over by Ajax from Almere for 600,000 euros last summer, where he then served as assistant to the departing Alex Pastoor. He has a contract until mid-2026 in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Almere was also in conversation with Rick Kruys. The VVV-Venlo coach will stop in Limburg after this season and, according to Hans Kraay junior, was the main candidate for the vacancy in Almere.

According to VI Almere was indeed in discussions with Kruys, but he has now been removed from the list. Maduro is now a top candidate to fill the vacancy.

The 39-year-old Maduro also started his playing career at Almere. He was picked from the club’s youth academy by Ajax, for which he made his debut in professional football.
