Adrian Newey appears to be the first to leave Red Bull Racing. The 65-year-old Briton is seen as the best engineer in Formula 1 and he therefore plays a key role in Max Verstappen’s current success. However, Newey is not happy with all the unrest within the team and is also said to be dissatisfied with his position. Lawrence Stroll’s Aston Martin is now – with a big bag of money – ready to take him over.

Who says Newey, says championship-winning Formula 1 cars. He not only designed the successful cars of Sebastian Vettel and Verstappen, but in the more distant past also those of Williams and McLaren. He has been working for Red Bull since 2005, but that seems to be coming to an end soon. Yesterday the first reports emerged that Newey will resign. Although the engineer from Colchester still has a contract until the 2025 season, he is investigating internally whether something can be arranged. If Newey leaves his contract, he may – because of the so-called gardening leave – don’t just start working for another team. However, Newey does not plan to spend a year on the sidelines. And that is understandable, because the teams are lining up for him. Among them is Stroll’s Aston Martin.

Aston Martin F1 wants to take the next step with Newey

Stroll took over the ailing Force India in 2018 and has since transformed the team into a sub-topper, which now operates under the name Aston Martin F1. With Fernando Alonso they now also have a two-time world champion on board, who also recently extended his contract. In addition, Aston Martin has had a brand new and ultra-modern factory built in Silverstone. The last seasons also show that Stroll and Aston Martin take their work seriously. They want to do everything they can to build a team that can win world championships. With Newey they hope to come one step closer to this dream. And to convince the top designer, Stroll is willing to open his wallet.

Stroll willing to pay a lot of money

Money is not a problem for Stroll. The Canadian is a successful businessman and his fortune was estimated at around $3.9 billion in March this year. Stroll therefore has the financial resources to seduce Newey and, according to Jake Boxall-Legge, of Motorsport isn’t he “afraid” to do this? Newey can expect a huge bag of money on his doorstep. “So it is not inconceivable that he [Stroll, red.] makes a large offer of money. I believe that has already happened. He has made Newey an offer,” it sounds.

Aston Martin has competition from Ferrari

However, Aston Martin does have competition in the battle for Newey’s signature. Ferrari is also said to be looking for the services of the top designer and the Italian racing team has a few advantages, including its name. Newey has always said he wants to work for the iconic team again. In addition, from next year Ferrari will have a seven-time world champion on board with Lewis Hamilton, someone with whom Newey would also like to work.
