Leverkusen escapes in the last minute, but can forget Bayern’s points record | Football

In the home match against Stuttgart, Leverkusen faced a 0-2 deficit after an hour of play due to goals from Chris Führich and Deniz Undav. Amine Adli scored the 1-2 in the 61st minute and that seemed to be the end of it. Deep into extra time, German international Andrich still prevented a loss. Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong had just been substituted at that moment.

In recent weeks, Leverkusen has escaped its first defeat of the season many times with a late goal.

Coach Xabi Alons’ team has not lost in any competition or tournament this season. Not in the battle for the German Super Cup, not in the Bundesliga, not in the DFB-Pokal and not in the Europa League. Earlier in the day, RB Leipzig left little behind Borussia Dortmund. Partly thanks to an assist from Xavi Simons, coach Marco Rose’s team won 4-1 against the club that will play in the semi-finals of the Champions League next week.

Without the suspended Ian Maatsen and the injured Donyell Malen, Dortmund took a 0-1 lead in the Red Bull ArenA thanks to a goal from Jadon Sancho, but halfway through Leipzig already led 2-1. Simons was responsible for former Vitesse player Loïs Openda’s equalizer and Benjamin Seso scored the second goal for the home team. In the second half, Mohamed Simakan and Christoph Baumgartner scored for Leipzig.

Due to the defeat, Dortmund will have a bad feeling heading into Wednesday’s semi-final match in the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain. In the other semi-final, Bayern will play at home against Real Madrid a day earlier.

The defeat also means that Dortmund must fear that it will be active in the Europa League next season and not in the Champions League. Leipzig is fourth, five points ahead of Dortmund. The numbers one to four in the Bundesliga go directly to the Champions League and the numbers five and six receive a ticket for the Europa League. Werder Bremen won 0-3 at FC Augsburg. Romano Schmid, Marvin Ducksch (penalty) and Olivier Deman scored for the visitors. Captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw completed the ninety minutes at Augsburg.

Bayern had a good general result for the Champions League on Saturday, although the 2-1 win over Frankfurt was not convincing. Harry Kane scored the 1-0 for the home club in the ninth minute, but fourteen minutes later it was level again through Hugo Ekitike. After an hour of play, Kane shot Bayern to victory from the penalty spot.

Matthijs de Ligt had a starting place at Bayern, but due to an injury he was replaced halfway by South Korean defender Kim Min-jae. At Frankfurt, Donny van de Beek came on thirteen minutes before the end.

VfL Wolfsburg took three points at SC Freiburg (1-2) in a spectacular final phase. Bremen defender Sebastiaan Bornauw gave the Freiburg a 1-0 lead after 42 minutes with an own goal, after which a lot went wrong for the home team in the last ten minutes. Roland Sallai missed a penalty for Freiburg, while Maximilian Arnold and Maxence Lacroix scored for Wolfsburg. Freiburg’s Kiliann Sildillia saw red after 64 minutes.
