Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has no feelings of revenge towards Bayern Munich. The Italian said this in the run-up to the cracker in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The 64-year-old Ancelotti succeeded Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich in 2016, but his period in the south of Germany was not a resounding success. He was fired after just one season.

Yet Ancelotti harbors “no feelings of revenge”. “My stay there could have been longer,” the Italian coach reflected. “But I have very fond memories of the city.”

Ancelotti preferred to look ahead, and in particular to Tuesday evening’s cracker Bayern Munich-Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League. The coach of the Spanish top team was full of praise for his Bayern colleague Thomas Tuchel.

“He is a tactical genius,” Ancelotti said. “Bayern played spectacular matches in the quarter-finals against Arsenal, one of the best teams in Europe. It is indicative of the quality and history of the club, which is comparable to our history in this competition.”

Bayern-Real will kick off at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday at 9 p.m. The question is whether Bayern defender Matthijs de Ligt will be fit in time. The return is next Wednesday in Madrid. The other semi-final battle in the Champions League is between Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
