Blanka Kata Vas sprints with ‘weaker legs’ to the leader’s jersey in La Vuelta Femenina

The new leader in La Vuelta Femenina is called Blanka Kata Vas. The Hungarian from SD Worx-Protime managed to gain bonus seconds during the second stage and also finished second in the sprint. “I didn’t even have the best legs today,” she said afterwards.

And yet Vas managed to do well in the general classification with her weaker legs. She turned out to be very attentive along the way, because she managed to grab four bonus seconds in the intermediate sprint. This eventually became ten, because at the finish she was good for six extra seconds. This turned out to be more than enough to take over the leader’s jersey from Gaia Realini.

“It was a very technical final and that is to my advantage,” she said via her team after the finish. “It’s nice that I can now wear the red jersey. It would be great if we could keep him in the team.”

“The goal is to win this Vuelta Femenina with the team. I am very happy with the sweater. It was not really the intention that I would take the bonus seconds, but I was well at the front in the intermediate sprint and so I gave it a try.”
