--

Christian Chivu is seriously in the picture as an assistant coach to possible Graham Potter at Ajax, Gianluca Di Marzio confirms after earlier reports from the Algemeen Dagblad. According to the Italian journalist, the Amsterdammers see Chivu as a ‘trainer for the future’.

Chivu is currently the youth coach of Inter. As manager, he is in charge of the Under 19 selection of the Italian champions.

He took office there in the summer of 2021. He coached that group for 108 matches and before that he was also ultimately responsible for the Under 18 team and the Under 17 selection of i Nerazzurri.

The Romanian played 142 official matches on behalf of Ajax 1 as a player between 1999 and 2003 and can now return to Amsterdam as an assistant coach.

According to Di Marzio, Ajax plans to offer Chivu a five-year contract and the future prospect is that he can be promoted to the position of head coach ‘in two or three years’.

Ajax has already been to Italy to attend the Under 19 match between Inter and Cagliari (3-0) on April 20. Chivu is reportedly flattered by the interest of the Amsterdam team and is seriously considering a return to Ajax.
