In the first stage-in-line, Marianne Vos was unable to sprint due to a crash, but today everything went as planned and she turned out to be by far the fastest in the final sprint. In Teruel she defeated Charlotte Kool and Olivia Baril. “I am of course very happy,” were her first words in the flash interview.

Visma | Lease a Bike was rewarded today for the efforts made. The Dutch formation did not avoid its responsibility. “We were in the lead all day yesterday, but then had bad luck in the final. Today we went again all in. The girls rode really well. It’s nice to end it then. I am very happy with this victory.”

There wasn’t much to do today on the way to the finish town of Teruel, but it was still hectic at times. “Especially in the beginning with the wet roads. It was very slippery and slippery and we saw many falls,” Vos looks back on the first kilometers. “Then you hope that everyone will get through it okay.”

Several riders also crashed in the final. “But I didn’t see what happened. We were trying to put ourselves in a good position. They say it’s part of the race, falling, but it’s never fun to see,” concludes the winner of the day.

A special victory

For Marianne Vos, the third stage of La Vuelta Femenina 2024 is not just a victory. It is exactly eighteen years ago today that the Brabant woman managed to book her very first professional victory. On April 30, 2006, she was the fastest in the final stage of the Czech stage race Gracia-Orlová. The then only 18-year-old Vos defeated Judith Arndt and Tanja Hennes, two riders who have since retired a long time ago.

Eighteen years later, at the age of 36, Vos is still racing at the top of her game. She was also very successful in the spring with wins in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Dwars door Vlaanderen and the Amstel Gold Race.
