‘Really unworthy, he really can’t compete at this level’

--

Wesley Sneijder has nothing good to say about Lucas Vazquez’s performance in the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich. In the eyes of the former midfielder, the Real Madrid defender made several glaring mistakes, with the penalty kick being the low point.

“If you are a Real Madrid fan, you are in love with that boy,” Sneijder begins his analysis RTL. “He is not a defender at all, we saw that throughout the match. He has surrendered everything he has played forward in possession of the ball.”

According to Sneijder, Vazquez has no idea what he is doing. “Real Madrid was very unlucky that Carvajal was suspended. Also those defensive actions. He is passed over as if he was not there.”

“This is unworthy of Real Madrid. That penalty kills everything. How can you stick your leg out there? How can you stick your leg out there? You are playing the semi-finals of the Champions League. This is not possible, is it? Seriously?”

Humberto Tan asks why Vazquez was not brought in early by Carlo Ancelotti. “Maybe Ancelotti didn’t see it?” Sneijder speculates. “I don’t know. It looks like a grasshopper. Look at it walking across that field.”

Next week during the return, Real will have Carvajal again. “I really like him in that position,” said Sneijder. “Vazquez only plays when there are emergencies or when Real is 3-0 ahead. Then he can come in. But to throw him to the wolves in such a match, in that position… That’s asking for trouble.”

“You really don’t leave a stone unturned about him, you know that?” Humberto Tan chimes in again. “He doesn’t deserve that either,” said Sneijder. “He doesn’t deserve that, does he? We can be critical, right? At this level, what are we talking about?”
