Rick Karsdorp initiated the 0-2 defeat of AS Roma in the first leg against Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-finals of the Europa League on Thursday with a blunder. Atalanta drew 1-1 at Olympique Marseille thanks to an assist from Teun Koopmeiners.
After half an hour of play at Roma-Leverkusen, Karsdorp played the ball back too short at Mile Svilar. Álex Grimaldo intercepted the pass and passed the ball wide to Florian Wirtz, who easily scored.
A few minutes earlier, Roma had hit the crossbar. Romelu Lukaku headed the ball from a corner against the aluminum.
The 0-1 stood on the scoreboard for a long time, until Leverkusen found the goal again more than fifteen minutes before the end. Robert Andrich’s long shot ended up beautifully in the top left corner.
Karsdorp was substituted after just over an hour of play. Jeremie Frimpong, who missed a number of chances, had a starting place at Leverkusen and left shortly before the end. The Germans extended their unbeaten run this season and are close to the global record.

Koopmeiners important for Atalanta
Atalanta took the lead after eleven minutes through Gianluca Scamacca. The former player of Jong PSV and PEC Zwolle finished after a nice pass from Koopmeiners. Chancel Mbemba equalized nine minutes later with a long shot.
Koopmeiners and captain Marten de Roon had a starting place at Atalanta. Hans Hateboer replaced the team from Bergamo in the final phase and Mitchel Bakker was missing due to illness.
The returns of the semi-finals in the Europa League are scheduled for next Thursday. The final match will be played in Dublin on May 22.
