Michael van Gerwen was already eliminated in the first round of the fourteenth Premier League evening on Thursday. The three-time world champion lost to Rob Cross in a high-level match in Aberdeen, Scotland: 5-6.

The 35-year-old Van Gerwen and Cross, two years younger, both reached a good level. The Dutchman in particular threw excellently with an average of 108.33 per three arrows. Cross had to make do with an average score of 99.94.

The match went evenly. With a 5-5 score, Cross was allowed to start the deciding leg. Van Gerwen was able to throw a score of 167, but aimed his last arrow just outside the bullseye. Cross then finished it on double-4.

It is the second week in a row that Van Gerwen loses to Cross. Last week the Englishman won against the Vlijmenaar in the semi-finals. For ‘Mighty Mike’, a place in the top four of the Premier League is at risk due to the defeat.

The round in Aberdeen was won by Luke Littler. The seventeen-year-old Englishman beat Cross 6-4 in the final and is currently leading the Premier League.

Two more regular rounds of matches in the Premier League will follow on May 9 and 16 in Leeds and Sheffield. The play-offs will take place in London on May 23. The four best players in the Premier League qualify for the play-offs.
