Xavi Simons once played a negative instead of positive role at RB Leipzig on Friday. The Dutch international received a red card in the competition match with Hoffenheim (1-1). In France, a goal from Thijs Dallinga was not enough for Toulouse.

In the away game against Hoffenheim, Simons received a yellow card just after half-time when he continued playing after making hands. His second yellow and therefore red followed in the 72nd minute after a foul on Anton Stach.

For Simons, the red card is at odds with a season in which he often draws positive attention to himself. The loanee from Paris Saint-Germain scored a total of nine times and provided fifteen assists.

At the time of Simons’ red card, Leipzig led 0-1 through a goal by Benjamin Sesko. With ten men, the German top club scored the equalizer, which was made just before the end by Andrej Kramaric.

With two games to go, Leipzig, as number four in the Bundesliga, is already assured of Champions League football. Simons’ club is still chasing number three VfB Stuttgart, which has one point more. Hoffenheim, where Wout Weghorst was missing for private reasons, is competing for a Conference League ticket as number seven.

Dallinga scores thirteenth goal of the season

Dallinga was accurate in the 34th minute of Toulouse-Montpellier. The attacker headed in from close range after a teammate had extended a cross from the left with his head. It was 1-1 for Toulouse.

With his thirteenth goal, Dallinga is now in the top five of the top scorers rankings in France. Only Kylian Mbappé (26 goals), Jonathan David (17), Alexandre Lacazette (16) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (14) have scored more times than Dallinga in Ligue 1 so far.

Toulouse had the best chances of victory after Dallinga’s goal and saw Montpellier reduced to ten men from the 65th minute onwards due to Teji Savanier’s second yellow card. Yet things still went wrong for the home club. Khalil Fayad scored the winning 1-2 nine minutes before the end.

The defeat has consequences for Toulouse. The club can now definitively forget about European football. With two matches to go, the team, where Zakaria Aboukhlal started in the starting line-up and Stijn Spierings came in, is six points behind in sixth place. Numbers one to six in France qualify for European football.

Dallinga was not the only Dutchman who was accurate on the foreign fields on Friday evening. Dominique Janssen scored for the football players of VfL Wolfsburg in the 5-1 league match against 1. FC Köln. Lynn Wilms provided an assist.
