The sprint race in Miami is scheduled for later today. Sprint races are still not very popular among drivers. Fernando Alonso doesn’t feel like it at all and he states that they are not allowed to fight anyway, because otherwise they will be punished.

Alonso received a heavy punishment two weeks ago after the sprint race in China. The Spaniard fought a fierce duel with Carlos Sainz, which resulted in a flat tire. The stewards ruled that he was guilty of this incident, which in turn caused bad blood for the Spanish Aston Martin driver. Alonso is therefore not looking forward to today’s sprint race in Miami.

Not interesting

After the sprint qualifying, Alonso was not happy. He will start the race from eighth place, but he tells Motorsport.com that he does not find the sprint very interesting: “The sprint race doesn’t mean anything, especially because we will be penalized differently. Whatever we will do on Saturday during the sprint race, it’s for fun. It’s not interesting for us at all.”

Grip level

Not everything went according to plan for Aston Martin in sprint qualifying. The British racing team did quite well in the previous qualifying sessions. Alonso explains why he could not get further than the eighth fastest time: “It was difficult to read the grip level, as well as the change in tire compound. It was difficult, but it was also the same for everyone. We were in the position with both cars the third part of the sprint qualifying, and that was the goal. We’ll see tomorrow.”
