More than a hundred tornadoes have caused massive damage in several US states in recent days. Five people died. The state of Oklahoma was particularly hard hit.

Four people were killed in Oklahoma. According to local media, one of the victims is a four-month-old baby. There was also a death in the state of Iowa. Tens of thousands of households were without power.

The National Weather Service recorded 78 tornadoes on Friday, mainly in the states of Nebraska and Iowa. Isolated weather events led to another wave of tornado reports on Saturday, when the count reached 35. Those tornadoes occurred in northern Texas and in Oklahoma and Missouri.

In the central United States, powerful and frequent tornadoes are not uncommon in the spring. According to meteorologists, it is exceptional that such large outbreaks occur on consecutive days.

During the stormy weather, almost 20 centimeters of rain fell in some places within a few hours. Many areas were warned of flooding, hail and more tornadoes on Sunday. In Oklahoma, Governor Kevin Stitt declared a state of emergency on Sunday.
