Pascal Kamperman expects that there will be more clarity about the trainer position at Ajax ‘next week’. That’s what the ESPNjournalist on Sunday afternoon during the preview of the away match that the Amsterdam team will play at 2.30 pm at relegation candidate FC Volendam.

Kamperman discusses the latest developments in Amsterdam with analyst Kees Luijckx. Since the return of Alex Kroes, who now works as titular technical director at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, rumors about who will succeed John van ‘t Schip next summer have followed each other in rapid succession.

According to the latest reports, Ajax has now given up hope of Erik ten Hag’s return. The club is therefore currently in discussions with two serious candidates: the club-less Englishman Graham Potter and the Italian OGC Nice coach Francesco Farioli. Yesterday (Friday) it emerged from England that negotiations with Potter were proving difficult and that Ajax would even consider pulling the plug if the trainer’s agent does not quickly make things right.

“If you want to make further selection, you need someone who will do that,” Kamperman said on Sunday when it comes to the selection for next season. “Yes, but they have Kroes, right?”, Luijckx responds. Finding a successor for Van ‘t Schip is, according to the former footballer, ‘the biggest challenge for Ajax’. Kamperman: “If I have to believe the reports, there will be more clarity about the trainer next week.” That seems like a good thing to Luijckx: “That would be nice, then you can also start working on players. Because they will also respond to a trainer, of course, if he is not there yet then that is much more difficult.”
