Pascal Jansen says he has had no contact with Ajax about the coaching position in Amsterdam. The coach, who was dismissed from AZ, was spotted several times in the Johan Cruijff ArenA in recent months, but in his view there is no need to investigate this.

Jansen was present at Ajax – RKC Waalwijk (4-1) on January 24 and at Ajax – FC Utrecht (2-0) on March 3, as was already known. He himself said on Sunday morning that he was also in the stands at Ajax – Excelsior (2-2) on April 24. Yet he does not seem to be in the picture at Ajax. At the moment, Graham Potter and Francesco Farioli are seen as top candidates.

“No, I have not had any contact with Ajax,” Jansen made it clear on Sunday morning on Goedemorgen Eredivisie. “I have indeed spent several weekends at Ajax. In the first weekend after my dismissal, I sat in the skybox of Muy Manero (agent’s office, ed.) at their invitation. I also went against Excelsior once. I am a football fan and live 20 to 25 minutes from the ArenA, so that is not that complicated.”

Jansen is asked by Hans Kraay junior whether his working method would suit a club like Ajax. Jansen does not deny this. “Hans, I think they are very busy finding a new coach. But there has been no contact,” he says. Jansen was in the picture when Sven Mislintat was looking for a new trainer; that eventually became Maurice Steijn. “There was contact with Muy Manero and Nathan van Kooperen when Ajax was looking for a new trainer, yes.”
