Ajax and Graham Potter cannot reach an agreement yet. The 48-year-old Englishman is still a candidate to become the new head coach, but in the meantime Ajax is also talking to Francesco Farioli.

Ajax and Potter have been in discussions for weeks. Both parties appreciate each other, but it has not yet been possible to agree on the conditions. There is still a financial gap to be bridged, while it also concerns the implementation of the technical staff and Potter’s say in the transfer policy.

These are important points for Potter and so the coach and his entourage appear not to be prepared to compromise too much. Ajax, in turn, has learned from recent years and does not want to throw all its principles overboard. As a result, everything is taking longer than the club had hoped.

Ajax wants clarity about the trainer position quickly. If the conversations with Potter this week do not offer any prospects for this, the club will switch to other candidates, such as OGC Nice coach Farioli. A delegation from Ajax recently traveled to the south of France for an introductory meeting with the 35-year-old Italian and recently the lines were further strengthened with Farioli, who himself seems to be interested in Ajax.

Farioli is in his third season as head coach. He previously worked in Turkey at Karagümrük and Alanyaspor. Since the summer he has been leading the group at Nice, which is on course to achieve its goal of a place in the top six and a European ticket. Farioli still has a contract until mid-2025 on the Côte d’Azur.
