Thanks to an economical win over Vitesse (1-0), FC Utrecht retains a view of fifth place, which entitles them to Europa League football next season.

The gap to Ajax, which is currently fifth, is three points. The Amsterdam team also won on Sunday, 4-1 against FC Volendam.

NEC is also still in the race for fifth place. The Nijmegen team will be in action on Monday evening, away to Excelsior, and can jump over Utrecht if they win.

Substitute makes the difference

FC Utrecht found it difficult to score against the already relegated Vitesse. A substitute had to make the difference in the Galgenwaard. After the break, Victor Jensen came on for Taylor Booth.

And sure enough, three minutes later he gave FC Utrecht the lead. The 24-year-old Dane was handed the ball on the edge of the sixteenth, turned around and shot the ball delicately with his left foot into the right corner (1-0).

Utrecht was already certain of the play-offs for European football, a battle between places six to nine, after the regular season. Whoever wins the final will receive a ticket for the Conference League.

The Domstedelingen will meet Sparta Rotterdam at home, a week later the club will visit AZ.
