Presenter Menno Pot is joined at the Branie table by Parool journalist and Branie producer Josien Wolthuizen, who watched with dismay as Ajax gave FC Volendam the final push: the club is relegated. “It’s a shame, because FC Volendam is a club that many Ajax players really like. That is very possible next to Ajax,” says Wolthuizen, who himself played football for the amateur branch RKAV Volendam.
As for Ajax: it was visibly good for the team that Jordan Henderson and Steven Berghuis returned to midfield. Pot, Wolthuizen and Ajax Showtime editor Bademba Barrie consider the question of whether those veterans should also form the foundation of next season’s Ajax. “Henderson coaches and provides structure, but you also saw in Volendam what his added value in terms of football can be,” says Barrie. “He gave decisive passes and is one of the few midfielders of Ajax who can skip a line.”
