The last wish came true for these terminally ill PSV fans

--

Thanks to the Ambulance Wens foundation and the Wens Ambulance Brabant foundation, three terminally ill PSV fans were able to experience the ceremony live on Monday. “This is the most wonderful day of my life,” said Twan Vermeulen from Gemert, who has had a season ticket for fourteen years.

A boyhood dream. Vermeulen repeats the word several times. He has lung cancer and adrenal cancer and only has six months to a year to live. He is therefore very happy that he was able to experience the PSV championship.

“I am a supporter through and through. Without PSV there is no life for me. My wife had previously arranged tickets in a VIP box for the PSV match against Twente. And now this. Great,” says Vermeulen.

The three fans are all lying on a bed. For now they will be on the side, but at the ceremony they will be given a place of honor at the front so that they can see everything clearly.

“It’s wonderful to be standing here with my father”

Djordy van Veen from Eindhoven accompanies his father Guus, who can no longer talk. “The cancer in his throat was first removed but came back and has now spread throughout his body. He only has a few weeks to live,” says his son. “It is wonderful to stand here with my father. That makes me proud and I think he does too.”

Remon de Roo (48) is also terminally ill. He gets goosebumps from the atmosphere on Stadhuisplein and then the players still have to arrive. He looks back on Sunday’s match. “First being behind, then equal, then 2-1 ahead, then equal again and then the two goals. A real climax.”
