Jeremain Lens announced his football retirement on Tuesday. The 36-year-old attacker will end his career after this season.

Lens is currently still under contract with FC Versailles, with which he plays at the third level in France. “I have decided to quit football after this season,” said 36-year-old Lens VTBL for the Champions League match between Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund.

“I have been living there for quite a while and I am at peace with it. I have been able to play at great clubs, I have been able to play in a World Cup and I have become champions in several countries. I look back on my career with great pleasure.”

Lens started his career in 2006 at AZ, with whom he won the national title in 2008/2009. The attacker then switched to PSV, with which he failed to become champion again. He did win the KNVB Cup while serving in Eindhoven in the 2011/2012 season.

Lens also has a nice list of clubs behind its name abroad. He exchanged PSV for Dynamo Kyiv in 2013 and subsequently played for Sunderland, Fenerbahçe, Besiktas, Fatih Karagümrük and therefore FC Versailles.

Lens played a total of 34 international matches and scored eight goals. He attended one final tournament: the World Cup in 2014. Lens played under Louis van Gaal in the group matches against Spain, Australia, Chile and in the quarter-final against Costa Rica.
