SC Cambuur makes an emphatic appeal to its own supporters and to all other visitors not to damage the Cambuur Stadium on Friday evening after the match against Helmond Sport.

To those who intended to bring their own chair or cut a piece out of the artificial grass to have a nice souvenir at home, the message from the club from Leeuwarden is: please don’t do it. “That is very important,” general manager Ard de Graaf said via the club channels. “Particularly because the new stadium is not yet finished and, if it is not completed on time, the old one will remain the emergency scenario to fall back on.”

De Graaf understands the sentiment at what will most likely be the very last official home game in the Cambuur Stadium. Although it is still uncertain whether the start of the new season will be reached, next season Cambuur must play its home games in the Kooi Stadium, the new facility that is being built on the other side of the city. And that is logically something to swallow for all those people who have countless memories of Cambuurplein.

Stadium is still in full use

“Regardless of the emergency scenario, the Under 21s will continue to train in the old stadium for the time being and will also play their home games there,” De Graaf continues his plea. “The first team will also continue to use it, at least in the preparation for the new season. So we are going to make full use of this stadium, this beautiful old stadium, next summer and in the months to come. So it is important that we can continue to do that well.”

Don’t worry, says the director, because those who are entitled to it will have the opportunity to claim their seat in September during a weekend yet to be determined. “That will be a weekend in which everyone can say goodbye to the stadium. Where you can view all the rooms, sit in the stands, take photos and therefore – not unimportant – get your own seat. Logically a great wish from supporters.”

Activities on Friday evening

So it promises to be a memorable evening on Friday. To give the evening extra character, Cambuur has orchestrated various things. In addition to music and undoubtedly fireworks, all players who became champions in the past while serving the club are invited. After the match they walk a lap of honor through the stadium. Furthermore, the game is stopped in the 12th minute to applaud all the supporters who have died in the past sixty years.
