In a new episode of ‘Kees van der Spek: Scammers Tackled’, Kees van der Spek (59) visits Eduard and Kitty. They became victims of inheritance fraud and boarded the ship for no less than 400,000 euros. The scammers initially appear to be in Nigeria, but research by IT specialist Danny gives the case a completely different twist.
Eight years ago, Eduard received an email stating that a gigantic inheritance was waiting for him. He just needs to make a down payment of a few hundred euros and then the amount of 10 million euros will appear in his account within a few days. Since Eduard and Kitty are not well off, the million-dollar inheritance is very welcome. But after the first deposit, the couple must make another deposit. This goes on for years. Kitty even decides to sell her house for 2.5 tons and pays this amount to the scammers. In total, Eduard and Kitty are more than 400,000 poorer.
Kees uses IT specialist Danny to investigate the scammers. Danny is first given a location in Nigeria with a photo of the man who is trying to take money from the couple. If Danny monitors the situation a little longer, the phone used to message the victims is transferred to criminals in the Netherlands. Danny receives a precise location in Huizen and, through the trap set up, was able to take several images of the scammer. It concerns one man who logs in countless times and tries to steal money from Eduard and Kitty. In the meantime, he is in contact with a second person via another telephone who may give him instructions. It turns out to be a network of scammers.
Kees calls in his private detective to keep an eye on the suspect’s location. In the meantime, Kees has also contacted the police in the hope that they can arrest him. An exciting moment for Eduard and Kitty, because they come face to face with one of the men who scammed them.
Danny also found out that the suspect drives a Volkswagen T-Roc. The police, together with Kees and the victims, make a plan to arrest the suspect. Eventually they find him at a shopping center and the man is arrested. He denies having anything to do with the scam, but the evidence that Kees and his team have collected proves otherwise.
