Journalist Franke blogs every Wednesday about her family’s adventures. This week she’s trying to manifest money, because you never know. “One million sounds like a nice amount.”

I looked at our house bill. It went faster than expected. Very expensive groceries every week, new sports clothes, shoes that the children had already outgrown, a meal out and poof!, gone salary.

Things had gone fast in recent years. Those groceries in particular were a loss every week, and no longer in proportion to, for example, clothes from cheap chains. An evening of delicious cooking cost as much as three cheap pairs of pants for Olle. Bizarre.

I pulled The Secret once again off the shelf and other manifesting books that I had received and collected over the years. Maybe it was time to manifest an overdose of money, wouldn’t that be nice? Want to swim a little in tough cracks?

What would be a nice amount? A ton? That would seem wonderful to me! A million was even better actually. Although that wasn’t of much use to you, because you couldn’t even buy a house in the Netherlands with that money. Well, there were no houses at all, so I didn’t have to worry about that issue now.

Washboard or a new bath?

The more important question was: should I manifest a pot of money or manifest all the things I wanted separately? No money for a personal trainer, just a washboard. No money for a great holiday, but a trip to Portugal or Spain. No money for a new bathroom, but just a new bath? That might have been better.

Who knows, maybe a new electric car would suddenly appear on our doorstep, that would be the absolute bomb. With manifesting, I remembered, you had to actually see it in your mind’s eye, and feel how you would feel if you actually had what you wanted. Well. No idea.

At the dinner table I asked my housemates how they would handle it and asked, while I was tucking into a spoonful of red cabbage: “If you could wish for anything, or manifest anything you wanted, what would you choose?”

Playing at the European Championships

“Play in the World Cup or European Championship,” said Olle immediately, who had exchanged his favorite club for the Dutch national team after his first and last experience in the football stadium.

“A nice job for later that will earn me a lot of money,” said Puk.

“Not something for now?” I asked.

“Maybe to D1 hockey?” But she said it so hesitantly that I didn’t know if she really wanted it.

“Nothing else? No branch of your favorite makeup store in the backyard?” She shook her head no. Wonderful.

“I’ll be selling a lot more bicycles at work,” said my husband.

“Funny,” I said. “You all wish for things that you still have to do yourself, not just a pot of gold on your doorstep.” My tablemates looked at me like I was crazy. Apparently I was the only one who wanted to get rich while sleeping.

Becoming rich while sleeping

But yeah. I had not yet managed to manifest a million euros, so perhaps my roommates’ method was better. Or was I a bit too vague in my vibrations with such a large amount of money and was therefore not properly attuned to the universe? A ton then? That had to work, right?

I closed my eyes and thought about the joy if I opened my banking app and saw a ton extra on it. I breathed in and out and thanked the universe for this wish.

I’m going to win next round. I feel it. You too?
